village ;treasure trove of sustenace..ha ha aha

I always get confused what is development meant for. Is it a relative term or a absolute one, for the human as well as its intellectual development and pursuits. Then i take a pause, set my eyes on the development in the urban cities, and mistake them as the actual development, which we are being showcasing to the entire world. I might sound stupid but i have a very practical and eye opening visit to my village, which i undertook for some personal reason. Though i visited my native place many times but this particular visit gave me a very important and gainful insight of self sufficiency and sustainability, which have been eroded by us or by the colonial rule of 200 years in India, in pursuit of development. I think the story of other villages is not dissimilar.

Guess what? The age old image of a self-sufficient Indian village came before me...Taking a break from the bookish prescription of a self-sufficient village,it gave me a rejuvinating experience. When i reached home my father brought me some fish, and that is from the pond itself which is a few steps away from my house. Next morning i expressed desire for curd, and it was it was available,an old lady from yadav community(those who keep cattle traditionally,a caste based occupation)bring fresh curd,it was unforgettable.Really interesting!!you do not have to go outside the village periphery ,everything is almost available in the village. There are kurmi, who grow vegetables, kasai are there to provide you meat,if you want to have wine, then taste of a drink prepared from mahua or rice beer is not a bad deal. In fact village were arranged in such manner in ancianet times that they could fulfill the demand of the villagers. Pond for water harvesting as well as for comeercial uses,a temple for offering prayers, carpenters for making different household objects, mali for providing you flowers for offering to god, teli for oil,hakim/vaid for medical assistance and so on...The idea is to make a village economy self suffiecient. You do not have to look upon other for grants and fund to sustain yourself unlike the today's world.

The idea behind writing this blog is not to entertain about the things available in villages, but to enlighten you about the things which made a village self-sufficient. Technology and innovation are important tools for survival and sustenance. But they should be used in an unpartisan manner. I think we should learn from the village and look towards them for sustenance and survival. The mad race of the urban areas in not going to lead us anywhere but will ultimately push us towards inequality, crime, social injustice, social discontent and unglorifiried version of luxury. So take a break and have a look on the forgotten past of Indian villages, i am sure you won't be left untouched...
