Bhopal
Bhopal, capital of central Indian state Madhya Pradesh is beautifully referred to as 'City of Lakes'. Long before visiting to this beautiful and lively city i had very vague perception about this place. I had this notion that the city would be very hot due to high summer temperature and situated in the central part of India. But i had to burrow all the perceptions after happily wandering this city.
Well connected
Bhopal is well connected through highways, railways and airways. I must appreciate the Government of Madhya Pradesh for constructing roads and highways which are open day and night. This was my first visit to Bhopal and i travelled from Indore to Bhopal.
The highways and bus service is so good that it takes a little shorter time than the train journey. I booked Volvo bus through Goibibo from Indore. It took only 3 and Half hour journey from Indore to Bhopal.
Things you can do for travelling to Bhopal
Train journey is quite cheap if you do not wish to invest much in luxury. Otherwise you can book Volvo bus online which are not only comfortable but also saves a lot of time. Those who are in group booking a cab would be good option as it costs almost the bus journey.
Booking hotels online would also save you some money.
But i must advice to search the location of the hotels before committing the booking. I made this mistake of booking the hotel to a very far distance from my area of travelling. I did not google much. Later i came to know that the hotel was located too far from the main city centre from where other locations are very well connected. I had to invest a lot of money in commuting to those places which were located very near to the main city.
Transport
Transport in Bhopal is very good. You can book Ola/Uber taxi/auto to visit the city. The cost is very nominal. I had this experience that the autowallahas did not charge exorbitant price for my journey. But if you want to see the local places then you can take bus ride as well.
Places of Interest
Bhopal Lake
Also know as Bhojtal Lake, the lake was previously popular as Upper lake. It is one of the largest man made lakes in India. I have never seen such a large water body that too is man made. It is believed that Pramara King Bhoja constructed this lake. The city got its name form the King only. Some says the city was earlier known as Bhojtal which later became Bhopal. The lake is located near the New Market, the heart of the city. It is near Shyamal Hills where high profile people like Chief Minister residence is located.
I visited the lake twice once in the evening and later in the morning next day. When i visited in the evening it was raining, the sky was cloudy. Cool breeze made my evening and i spent around three hours near the lake. It is one of the best site for recreation especially for college-goers. But the lake welcomes everybody from family to old couples.
If you have ever been to Mumbai the lake reminds you of Marine drive. The long drive beside the lakes in rainy days make you feel that you are spending your vacation at some hill station. Rain made my evening even more romantic. Though there are boat services for visitors, but it was closed due to high tide and increase in the water level in the lake.
There are some good restaurant near the Boat Lake side. One can have dine along with some liquor.
But i advise to go early as the police starts vacating the space after 8 in the evening. You can enjoy the boat ride when you are visiting this place after September.
New Market
New Market is one of the central location in the city. One can book hotels as it is well connected with other places of interest. There are some good eataries and restaurant. Bapu Ki Kutia, Kawality
