microfinance, changing lives of rural women......

Munia is living in a small helmet of Bihar and mother of three kids. Life was not so easy for her around two year back. Her condition became all the more miserable when her husband Buddhan left her and went to Mumbai for a better future, but neither he returned nor any news of him came. The thought of taking care of her kids without any viable source of income haunted Munia every other day.But one day someone told her about the microfinance scheme of a cooperative society.

The cooperative was providing loan to women who belongs to downtrodden families on a very nominal interest rate. Munia appelied for the loan and she got a loan of the Rs 6000/- and bought some goats. She reared the goats with care and sold them to the local market, and surprisingly within year she made a profit of Rs 3003. She even paid up the loan in a year. Now she has adopted this as a profession and is selling grown goats to local kasai(butcherman). Her children are now going school and she has a saving in a bank too. Though sometimes she thinks about Buddhan but at the second time she also felt proud of her and of the micro-finance institution.

This is not a single story, there are many Munias who have got benefited from projects like this. Many NGOs and financial institution have come forward to help the rural women and have also provided financial aid. In fact by way of providing aid and technology we can make people self-employed.

So what kind of work to be undertaken to uplift the life of people who still doesn't know the meaning of India, as they are busy in arranging a one time meal for themselves. Your take and suggestion would help us to further the development of the rural folks. Put your comment and suggestion......We want more Munia to be self employed and No more Buddhan to leave his native place in search of Rojgar to the metro cities and other hinterlands......

    Nawal ji,
    Micro-finance has huge potential to impact the crawling rural economy. We have to innovate and integrate this vision on a mega scale. These small contributions make big diffrences to some one. Thanks for posting great work. I appreciate your writing attempt to keep it sharp, short and simple. Hope this goes a long long way. Congratulations...!!!

Bhimbetka History is replete with stories that amaze us. Visiting a long cherished place gives us goose bump. I had read the story of #Bhimbetka when i was a kid. It was nothing more than a word that used to relate with paintings on some rocks. The place was in Madhya Pradesh. When i was in my Masters i got a broader view about this place that too again in some books and some presentations by our teachers. I got this opportunity to visit this place in this Monsoon, when the entire land was enveloped covered with green grasses and plants. #Bhimbetka, a place located just 45 kms from #Bhopal, reveals the time when it used to be inhabited by our forefathers.
